history
In the 1980s, amidst the crisis of a new epidemic called AIDS, it became clear that traditional treatments for substance abusers would not effectively fight this life-threatening disease. A new substance abuse treatment model called "harm reduction" emerged, pioneered by exponents, one of the first organizations to recognize its potential and to build a program embracing this new approach. Success was immediate, and our impact has grown "exponentially" ever since.
Success began in 1988 with ARRIVE, a unique blend of HIV education and traditional drug treatment. This program's distinctive model resulted in something far beyond just treating the addiction and chronic illness. We successfully changed a persons value system from one that's acceptable on "the street" to one that nourishes and maintains responsible choices.
